While many tout the “harmlessness” of marijuana use, many studies are still being conducted surrounding the safety of lighting up that joint. A new study published in JAMA International Medicine Journal explains that effects of long-term marijuana use can last for decades, leading to poorer verbal memory (or ability to remember words) as well as mental processing speed.

While recreational marijuana use is now legal in various states and medicinal use in many more, it is important to understand that research surrounding the drug is still ongoing.
