Shedding New Light on Addiction

While research on addiction has come so far over the past few decades, new theories surrounding addiction and recovery continue to emerge. Based on his best-selling book The Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs, author Johann Hari hypothesizes that it is human connection rather than sober living that is the true polar opposite of addiction. While sobriety represents a life free of drugs and alcohol, for many it may not encompass the connection with others that is key to recovery. Many addicts find that disconnect and loneliness keep them in the cycle of addiction; perhaps it is not sobriety alone but also true, real, human connection that is key to addiction recovery.
