A recent Gallup study has found that the heaviest drinkers in America are those who are wealthier and more educated. While the study showed that 64% of adults drink alcohol, the numbers among those with a higher income jumped to 78%. For those with a lower income, the percentage dropped to 45%. Beyond just income level, there may be possible links between drink of choice and education level. College educated participants preferred wine to beer, while those with a high school education preferred beer to wine.

The poll cited that the 3o-to-49 year old age group consumed the most alcohol of any age group, at 71%.
