Substance Abuse Treatment
The term “Substance Abuse” refers to basically any mind-altering chemical that one ingests in a capacity that is damaging to themselves physically, mentally and/or emotionally. It is a broad term that covers all classifications of drugs including; cocaine, heroin, speed/methamphetamine/crystal, marijuana, alcohol, narcotic pain killers (Percocet, Oxycontin, Vicodin, etc.), opiates, benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, etc.), new drugs/club drugs (Ketamine, GHB, bath salts, MDMA, ecstacy, molly, etc.) and so on.
While NuLife provides integrative and full-scope treatment for all substance abuse related matters, we do provide an added level of customization relative to the client’s primary drug of choice. For instance, those addicted to crack-cocaine are typically faced with a higher level of what is referred to as “Euphoric Recall.” An analogy to this would be driving by your old elementary school and all of a sudden you’re literally thrust into a moment in time during that era of your life. That analogy may seem trivial to a normal person, but to the crack addict it is often overwhelming to the point that it can completely throw off their emotional and spiritual balance. Thus we look at each client’s addictive behaviors and patterns as they apply to his or her drug of choice, and create an effective substance abuse treatment plan which can address these unique characteristics.
When speaking with a treatment center, whether ours or another facility, it is important to ask if they are able to adjust the substance abuse treatment regimen based on the specific substance and patterns of use. Moreover, be sure to ask if the staff includes clinicians with their own personal experiences in overcoming addiction. This is very important and can be the critical element in how therapists are able to further connect with the client’s woes and inner struggles.
